Hello everyone!
Today i am going to write about an interesting article that i found in The Guardian.
This article is related with anthropology because it is about roman art...Art is a very important part of the culture of a society that is way threre exist an special area of anthropoligical studies called "Antrhopology of Art". If you really want to understand a different culture, it is very helpful to pay attention to the artistic expression that it has.
Ok, Here we go with the summary of the article!
"Porn yesterday: Roman brothel tokens and the rise of erotic art"
This article is about the origin of erotic art in Roman Britain. There has been found, beside the Thames, a kind of coin that has on its surface a representation of a sex scene. This type of coin was use to gain access to the ancient roman brothels.
The erotic images represented in this coins were very common in Renaissance Italy, and it is thought that they had a great influence in the origin of modern pornography. As we can notice erotic images were a part of the artistic expression in the Antiquity and the Renaissence.
It is possible to notice the influence of antique erotic art in the work of Guilio Romano (a renaissence artist from the 16th century). Romano's work is very similar to the erotic images from Roman London.
Another place where you can appreciate antique art are the ruins of a Roman bath in north wales. In this place you can see how romans recreated their way of life in an artistic way.
romans were much more liberal than us in terms of sexuallity. Maybe they accepted their nature more than us
